What is Conservatisme Web about?
Why Conservatisme Web?
This country, the Netherlands, is one of the most liberal and progressive countries on earth. For forty years now the progressive liberals have executed their ideas and with clear results. This country has some truly massive problems. Those are, but are not limited to, multiculturalism, crime so widespread that people are not taking the effort of reporting crime, so-called "kansenwijken" who are bad neighborhoods who are rapidly turning in to full blown ghetto's, politicians who want to solve the problems of very bad neighborhoods by giving the houses of those neighborhoods a new paint-job, an entire generation known as the "babyboomers" who claim unjustifiably that they rebuild the country after the second world war, and yet again a rise in antisemitism, socialism, and so on.
All these problems clearly lead from the progressive revolution in the year 1968. This country deserves better. A conservative movement that reclaims decency, order and authority and clearly renounces the old-left is not only needed, but is in its process of being created.
Conservatisme Web is a form of a meta-blog that collects the best conservative blogs in the Dutch-speaking world. That includes The Netherlands, Flanders and South-Africa. A new conservative order that thinks virtue is more important than brain-dead multiculturalism is about to rise and Conservatisme Web helps it become reality.
What is conservatism and why are you so enthusiastic about it?
Conservatism is a container for a certain mission to bring civilization upon this country. The necessity of this mission is crystal clear. The level of modern western civilization has been dropping steadily in the last decades. By example in the Netherlands, students now leave the university with same knowledge they entered it with a couple of decades ago. Conservatives see it as their mission to correct this and a lot more of intellectual mischief. This can however only be done if some things are put aside that in time have become normal. No change without pain.
To recover from the damage that Dutch society had to suffer from progressive ideology, conservatives grab traditions and restore them into their full beauty. Tradition is something beautiful. It has been passed from generation to generation, from father to son and from mother to daughter. Tradition has been shaped by trial-and-error, so by breaking with tradition the progressive liberals made way to simply repeat numerous errors that have been made in the past.
Here lies an important job for (high school) students and generally everybody of good will. Throw the television and game console out of your window and enlighten yourself with the sources of western civilization. Your future depends on it!
I want to know more about conservatism, but the necessity eludes me.
That can be very true. If you want to know what conservatism is about, but you don't fell necessity about doing so you should read the books written by one Theodore Dalrymple. Especially "Life at the bottom" and "In Praise of Prejudice". He has written a lot more, like a novel and some essay bundles, but those are best left to read later on. Theodore Dalrymple's constant theme is the damage that progressive thought does on those who can barely help themselves. That explodes into a full blown rejection of almost all political correct and progressive views and proves conservatives are right about the human nature.
Does conservatism in the Netherlands have a future?
Good question. An estimate of over a couple of thousand students in the Netherlands entitle themselves explicitly as conservatives. Furthermore there are yet even more "closetconservatives". People, both students and others, who don't think they are conservative but who's opinions about things are indeed conservative, only they don't want to admit they in fact are conservative. To themselves or others. Politically, people are disillusioned with both the socialist-left and the liberal-left. Furthermore, two public state-sponsored broadcasters are starting up who can be called conservative in a way. So yes, conservatism has a very bright future in the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands the times are a-changin'.
What is it about the opposition to political correctness?
Political correctness is something that originated from the so-called "Frankfurter Schule" (or, in English, the "Frankfurt School"). This school was Marxist and thought of a way to impose Marxism on Europe without the bloody revolution seen in pre-Sovjet Russia. It came with an answer. The idea was that the Europeans should disregard their own culture (that produced capitalism) and so accept socialism. But something happened. By the time that the Frankfurter Schule matured it's ideas, the Nazi's came to power in Germany. The Marxists where prosecuted by the Nazi's, so they had to flee. Many of the prominent figures ended up in America where the ideas of the Frankfurter Schule rooted.
Today, the ideas of the Frankfurter Schule are dominant in modern thought and better known as "political correctness". It primary aim, to impose dictatorial socialism upon Europe has unmistakably failed, but the means were in fact successful. Today its a kind of a hobby of present-day politicians to excuse oneself from European colonialism, by example. Colonialism has of course nothing to do with present-day Europe nor America, but that is not what is important. What important is that one excuses oneself from its culture and that is the real evil. In the face of present-day menaces, like Islamic jihad, an identity is needed to defend oneself. One of the most foremost reasons that Islamic jihad is so successful is not that they are so powerful, but that we keep apologizing for ourselves and therefore not take the right measures against it. Here lies an important job for conservatives. To remind the Western World that we have the most humane and scientifically advanced civilization and that we do not have to excuse ourselves for it.
As an English speaking person, where should I look for more information on conservatism?
You should go to the ISI. They have a good English website on conservatism and good opportunities for education.
